“What are you reading?” It’s been awhile since since JDFC’s had to find a way to avoid answering that question. Normally its a Sports Illustrated or the sports section in the Times. No guesswork involved when you’re seeing the glossy pics of athletes on the back pages of a magazine. But this time it was a little different. A black file folder with 4 pages of white stock printer paper, and 2 pages of high gloss photo paper bound together with a paperclip. It struck her as odd that it was delivered by a plain looking man in an olive green suit.
“Nothing, just a proposal from an ad agency.” He hated lying to her, but knew he had no choice. “Really?” she said. “Kinda late for them to send a courier to the house, isn’t it? And on a Sunday.” She hated the fact that at a moments whim his company could send him out of state for the opening of a new store. Leaving for days or weeks at a time on a moments notice became the norm during their relationship. The fact that her sister moved in for what was supposed to be a few weeks, which had turned into months was comforting for her since JDFC was out of town so often. “I have to head to New York for a few days, I’ll be back by Friday.”
